Challenge: The rising prevalence of NCDs
The Escalating Burden of rising Prevalence of Non-Communicable Diseases NCDS are now a leading cause of death and disability in Uganda They account for 35.40% of the National disease burden and contribute to about 30% of all deaths (WHO, 2010). According to Dr. Kemaketch from the Ministry of Health (5, Dec, 2024 during the medical bureau annual symposium). NCDS account for approximately 30% of all death in Uganda. The most prevalent include Hypertension, diabetes and cancer.
Our Approach
AS the Bash Global initiative, we intend to invest our energies towards breaking this vicious circle of risky living and its associated crises, we intend to work hand in hand with the ministry of health using the so many approaches with in our frame work to curb these deadly but highly preventable non-communicable diseases in our mother land.
Considerations;
- Community awareness and prevention. Launch targeted campaign on healthy diets, exercise and tobacco/ alcohol reduction and also Partner with schools and workplaces to establish health lifestyle clubs.
- Screening with early detection. Deploy mobile NCD screening units to rural and peri-urban communities, Integrate screening for hypertension, diabetes and cancers into routine health outreaches.
- Strengthens primary health care capacity. Equip health facilities in basic diagnostics like BP machines, glucometers, rapid cancer screening tools, train frontline health workers on WHO protocols for NCD prevention and control
- Advocacy and policy. Support government in enforcing tobacco/alcohol Legislation and Nutrition standards. Strengthen community voices in NCD policy dialogue.
Goals and Objectives
- Increase community awareness, behavior change in schools, workplaces by 2028.
- Expand screening and early detection of hypertension, diabetes and cancers to the different communities by 2028.
- Strengthen PHC capacity by equipping health facilities with diagnostics tools by 2027.
- Improve treatment adherence and support by establishing peer support groups.
- Strengthen NCD related policies and advocacy measures.
