Inclusion, communication, and equal opportunities for people with hearing impairments.
As Bash Global Initiative, we purpose to provide a comprehensive overview of all positive interventions that can ensure inclusivity in all aspects of life of people with hearing impairment in Uganda with the aim of informing program development, advocacy, and policy engagement. By presenting relevant statistics, analyzing root causes, and highlighting the lived realities of the deaf, this writeup seeks to support Bash global initiative in designing inclusive interventions, promoting disability rights, and influencing national and local decision-making processes.
The ultimate goal is to contribute to a more equitable and accessible society where people with hearing impairment can fully participate in all aspects of life.
Our Approach
Enhance Communication Access: Promote the use of sign language, captioning, and assistive technologies in schools, workplaces, and public spaces.
Promote Inclusive Education and Skills Training: Support learners with hearing impairments by providing accessible learning materials, specialized training, and vocational opportunities.
Strengthen Awareness and Advocacy: Sensitize communities, service providers, and policymakers about the rights and needs of people with hearing impairments to foster acceptance and reduce stigma. This can me achieved through strategic partnerships with the Government through the commissioner for Disability and Elderly Affairs in the Ministry of Gender, Labor and social development, and National Union for persons with disabilities of Uganda (NUDIPU).
Improve Livelihood Opportunities: Provide entrepreneurship and job placement support tailored to the needs and talents of people with hearing impairments.
Build Support Networks: Establish peer support groups, mentorship programs, and community-based platforms for sharing knowledge and experiences.
Ultimately, the project seeks to create a society where hearing impairment is not a limitation, but a unique identity respected and supported through inclusive systems.
